Order a print of St. Melitina Byzantine Icon
During the reign of Antoninus Pius, the devout Christian Melitinḗ in Markianopolis faced persecution under the ruler Antiochus for her successful preaching. Blessed with the gift of wonderworking, she shattered pagan idols, defying Antiochus’ attempts to make her worship them. Even efforts by the ruler’s wife and other women to sway her with kindness failed; instead, Melitinḗ converted the ruler’s wife, and together they brought many to Christianity. Enraged by this, Antiochus had both women beheaded, with Melitinḗ bravely accepting her martyrdom.
